What Arrow Spine Do You Need?
Choosing the correct arrow spine is crucial for optimal performance in archery. Here’s a guide to help you select the right arrow spine based on your bow type and shooting style.
Arrow Selection Charts
Arrow length is measured from the throat of the nock to the end of the insert. If you use a longer broadhead than a field point, consider opting for a slightly stiffer shaft.
Important:
- Point Weight: This includes the combined weight of the point, insert, Ballistic Collar, and FACT weight.
Steps to Determine Arrow Spine:
- Find Your Draw and Point Weight: Use the arrow selection chart to locate your draw weight and point weight.
- Measure Arrow Length: Measure from the throat of the nock to the end of the insert.
- Identify Group Number: Use the shaft selection chart to find the correct group number based on your measurements.
- Select Appropriate Spine: Match your group number to the spine selection for your bow. Refer to the detailed arrow specifications chart to see available shafts in your spine.

Compound Bows - With Finger Release
When using finger release, start with an arrow two boxes to the weaker side (left) of the chart. Begin with an arrow 1 inch longer than your selected length, then cut it down by 1/4 inch increments until you achieve perfect tuning using the bare shaft tuning method. Detailed instructions can be found in the back of the Gold Tip product catalog and on the Arrow University section of the Indo Archery website www.indoarchery.com.
Traditional Recommendations
- Determine Draw Weight: For recurve or longbows, establish the bow’s draw weight at your draw length. Have a friend mark the arrow where it intersects the outside of the riser while you are at full draw.
- Start with Longer Arrows: Begin with an arrow at least 1 inch longer than your desired finished length. Trim the shaft in 1/4 inch increments until you achieve a perfect tune using the bare shaft tuning guide. You can refer to the Indo Archery product catalog or the Arrow University section on the Indo Archery website for detailed instructions. Utilize the Indo Archery weight system to fine-tune spine reaction and increase arrow mass weight.
